We’re bringing soju over to Hearsay!\n\nAs South Korea’s national drink\, this spirit comes from several centuries of distilled perfection. The drink is used broadly\, whether it’s celebrating with family or commiserating with co-workers\, through glasses straight from the bottle or as soju bombs during the culture’s famous drinking games.\n\nFor June’s Secrets Spilled\, we’re kicking off Hearsay’s soju program. We’ve concocted a couple of cocktails and will be offering soju in bottled form.  We’re stocking flavors by Gorae\, who sources their soju from the volcanic bedrock filtered water of Jeju Island\, making a cleaner\, smoother taste. We’ll be offering flavored variations of peach\, lemon\, and honeydew\, as well as original flavor. Guests will taste each flavor as well as one of the cocktails and receieve a souvenir Gorae glass.\n\nWe will also provide a sampling of Hearsay’s charcuterie to munch on as we taste.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKey Facts About Soju:\n\n\nAlcohol Content: Typically ranges from 12% to 25% ABV (alcohol by volume). Most commercial brands hover around 16-20%. \n\n\nTaste: Mild and slightly sweet. The flavor can be quite neutral\, making it easy to drink\, though there are also flavored varieties (like peach\, apple\, grapefruit). \n\n\nIngredients: Traditionally made from rice\, but modern versions may also use sweet potatoes\, tapioca\, or wheat depending on availability and cost. \n\n\nAppearance: Clear\, similar in look to vodka or sake. \n\n\nHow It’s Consumed:\n\n\nStraight: Often served cold in small shot glasses. \n\n\nIn Cocktails: Mixed with beer (a combo called “soju bomb” or “somaek”) or used in fruity mixed drinks. \n\n\nWith Food: Commonly enjoyed with Korean BBQ\, fried chicken\, or spicy dishes. \n\n\nCultural Importance:\nIn Korea\, drinking soju is a social activity with its own etiquette\, like pouring drinks for others rather than yourself\, and turning your head away from elders when drinking.
